Suspect In Stabbing Of Everett Football Player Held Without Bail

EVERETT (CBS) – A 19-year-old Everett man has been arrested and charged with the stabbing of Everett High School football player Marvens Fedna.

Fedna was stabbed in the early morning hours of November 1 following a high school football playoff victory. Osmin Murcia has been charged with assault and battery by means of a dangerous weapon and armed assault with intent to murder.

Prosecutors say Fedna and a group of football players were headed to a Halloween party when one of the friends was approached by Murcia and another man in a threatening way. Fedna stepped in to defend the group, but prosecutors say Murcia turned on him with a knife suffering a laceration to his hand that severed a tendon, and a back injury so severe it required three surgeries.

It was only two days ago that prosecutors say a witness came forward identifying Murcia as the attacker. "Officers utilized the name and obtained a photo array to show to the victim who positively identified the defendant as the one who stabbed him," said prosecutor Rachel Perlman.

Murcia, they say, has been in the country for one year and only sporadically attended Everett High School. He's now being held without bail pending a dangerousness hearing December 4.
