Part Of Charles Hotel Ice Rink Stolen From NH Storage Facility

CAMBRIDGE (CBS) - Part of the Charles Hotel ice rink has been stolen. The rink is a popular one for families living in Cambridge, and until the missing piece is found, it looks like the entire skating season has been put on ice.

For the past decade, the Cambridge hotel has assembled and reassembled the neighborhood staple.

But, when general manager Alex Attia called the storage facility in New Hampshire this year, he was told it was not there.

The owners of Déjà Vu Furniture tell WBZ the trailer was taken as it was being prepped for transport. It is a white, 53-foot Bowman trailer with blue letters.

The owners of the furniture store have reported the trailer stolen, but they are hopeful someone took it by mistake.

"The truth is, I thought that my team was playing a joke on me," Attia said.

Now the hotel would like to do something with this spot. They certainly don't want to leave the big space empty.

"I've gotten at least a dozen ideas from the staff of what to do - from selling Christmas trees to having an ice-carving contest," Attia says.

But the rink is likely gone for good because at a cost of more than $300,000 this irreplaceable item really is just that.

"I want my rink back," Attia said.

If you know anything about this case you can call Déjà Vu Furniture or police.
