Burlington Fashion Blogger Named Miss Massachusetts USA

BOSTON (CBS) - A fashion-blogger from Burlington walked away with the Miss Massachusetts USA crown this weekend on her third attempt.

Whitney Sharpe, 21, finished first runner-up last year but won it all Sunday night at Lowell Memorial Auditorium in front of a crowd of hundreds.

A student at Lynn University, Sharpe beat out 51 other contestants for the right to compete in the nationally-televised Miss USA pageant next year.

The pageant ran into controversy last year when former owner Donald Trump launched his bid for president. Trump has since sold the Miss Universe Organization to WME/IMG, paving the way for the pageant's return to network television.

Alexis Frasca, 17, won out among 40 teen contestants to take the title of Miss Massachusetts Teen USA 2016. It was the Franklin High School senior's first attempt at the crown.

Other honorees in the Miss division included finalists Amanda Soucy, Ashley Baptista, Nicole Ursch and Caroline Lushbough.

In the Teen division Ashley Simoes, Lillian Andrews, Caitlyn Martin and Lexi Woloshchuk rounded out the top five.

The state pageant is run by Clemente Productions.

WBZ-TV's Bree Sison served on the panel of judges.
