Boston Police Launching Unsolved Homicides Video Project
BOSTON (CBS/AP) -- There have been 952 unsolved homicides in the city of Boston since 1970.
Now, a Boston Police Department video series looks to shed some light on those cases.
The Search for Justice campaign, launched on the department's website as well as their Facebook and Twitter pages, will highlight one unsolved homicide case each month. The series will feature interviews with detectives on the case, as well as family members of the victims.
"We hope that this effort will encourage those with information to contact our tip line with the understanding that it's never too late to help," said Boston Police Commissioner William Evans in a post on the department's Facebook page. "For the families impacted by violence, this project gives them a voice, a platform and an opportunity to remind people that the pain of losing a loved one lives with them every day; as does an equally intense desire to find the person responsible for the murder of their loved one."
Evans also acknowledged that one purpose for the video series is to dispel the notion that police don't do enough to investigate unsolved homicides.
The first video in the series focuses on the murder of Eric Smith-Johnson, killed in December 2010 in Dorchester.
