Torey Krug: Bruins' Struggles Fall On Players, Not Claude Julien

BOSTON (CBS) -- The Boston Bruins are off to an 8-8-1 start to the season, but have gone a frustrating 2-6-1 at home.

The Bruins let another two-goal lead slip away Tuesday night in a 5-4 loss to the San Jose Sharks at the TD Garden, and some have started to question whether or not the players have begun to tune out head coach Claude Julien.

Bruins defenseman Torey Krug adamantly denied any tuning-out of their head coach Thursday afternoon on 98.5 The Sports Hub's Zolak & Bertrand.

"Not at all. By no means whatsoever," said Krug. "Claude is a great hockey mind and everyone in the locker room respects who he is as a coach. By no means is his message lost. At some point we have to look in the mirror and be accountable as players."

Krug says the team's slump at home is the result of players losing focus and is not them ignoring their coach's message.

"There are a lot of things we do right, and throughout every game there are moments where you see a good team. A lot of the things we do wrong fall on our shoulders and are self-inflicted wounds," he said. "It happens over and over again, so at some point we have to snap out of this funk. These are things we can control, and it seems like we're losing games because of our mistakes.

"Winning games at home is crucial and these are points we can't let slip through our fingers and regret them later down the road when we are fighting for a playoff spot. We have to right the ship, and it falls on us as players."
