NFL Announces Increased Security Measures Following Paris Attacks
BOSTON (CBS) – National Football League officials have announced that there will be increased security measures in place for this week's games following the attacks Friday night in Paris.
The league said it has been in contact with the Department of Homeland Security and the FBI, which have confirmed there are no known threats against NFL stadiums.
All teams currently use metal detectors to screen fans and have other layers of security to protect fans that have been in place for several years.
"In addition to our standard procedures described above, there will be an increased security and law enforcement presence both inside and outside stadiums in the parking lots of our stadiums this weekend," the NFL said in a statement. "We have been in contact with clubs hosting games to reinforce our standard procedures and the league's best practices."
Fans are asked not to bring bags with them to stadiums this weekend.
Bags that are brought into stadiums must be made of clear plastic, vinyl or PVC and cannot exceed 12"x 6" x 12" in size.
The Patriots play Sunday at 4:25 p.m. against the New York Giants at MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, New Jersey.
