New Boston Garden Development Project Clears Major Hurdle
BOSTON (CBS) - It is our first look at what's to come on Causeway Street.
This is the future of the Boston Garden: A mega shopping, entertainment, housing development project right in the middle of the City.
One Celtics fan tells WBZ, "We are excited. More entertainment!"
Another fan says, "I think it's great, I think it's great, honestly we want more people in here!"
And you can bet on more people. The plans just cleared a major hurdle and it calls for 500 apartments, 200 hotel rooms, a grocery store, a movie theater, a bowling alley, 600,000 square feet of office and 300,000 thousand square feet of shopping.
But many are worried about the effects, from traffic to parking. This area is already bad, on a good day.
One woman says, "When I drove down here, I was like why did I go this way?"
The plans do call for 800 spots of parking, not enough say some, just look around now to know, parking is at a premium. But for the general manager of The Fours restaurant, he says it's a trade worth making for the local area.
Patrick Murphy says, "a lot of our business is driven off action at the Garden so it's nice to see there will be more people at off nights and summer. It will help the whole city out."
Construction is set to begin soon.
