David Pastrnak Remains Sidelined With Small Fracture In Foot

BOSTON (CBS) -- The Bruins will be without talented young winger David Pastrnak for a bit more time, as further testing on the 19-year-old's foot revealed a small fracture.

"Things changed a little bit," general manager Don Sweeney said Wednesday. "The initial X-rays we had were normal. We waited for swelling to go down. The symptoms were still persisting, so we went to a have a more definitive CT scan. And it did reveal a small, non-displaced crack in an awkward location, so we have to give him some time. The course of action doesn't change for him, except he just needs a little more rest."

Pastrnak hasn't played since Oct. 23 against the Islanders, which was two games after he took a puck to the foot. Sweeney said that surgery is not looking like a possibility at this time.

"He's just going to rest," Sweeney said. "We're just going to make sure we're not taking any chances with him."

Pastrnak had two goals and two assists in seven games before going down with the injury.

On the more positive injury news front, both Sweeney and head coach Claude Julien said that Torey Krug's second straight missed practice was solely due to "maintenance." Sweeney said the D-man is "just dealing with something small," and Julien said he "would be leaning more towards yes than no" when asked if he expects Krug to play Thursday night against the Avalanche.
