Teen Candidates Win Elections In Brockton, Quincy
BOSTON (CBS) -- Two young men barely out of high school will soon be taking office in Brockton and Quincy.
James DeAmicis, 19, won his bid for one of the three open school committee seats, making him the youngest person ever to be elected in Quincy. He's a very recent graduate of Quincy High School, and talked to WBZ NewsRadio about what made him decide to run.
"People came up to me from the community. . . they all said, 'you know what? We think we need fresh blood,'" DeAmicis said.

He also gave high praise to his former principal, Frank Santoro, who was his opponent at one point.
"He's been along with me since the beginning, even though he was running for the same position," DeAmicis said.
In nearby Brockton, 18-year-old Jack Lally won his bid for city council.
"I would see things happen, missed opportunities, stuff like that," Lally said. "I can't just sit and watch the TV, I'm going to lose my mind. I have to get involved."
Both men will be balancing their new posts with full time schoolwork at college. Lally is at Bridgewater State University, and DeAmicis is attending Suffolk University.
