Holyoke Driver Avoids Injury When 4x4 Pierces Windshield

SPRINGFIELD (CBS) -- A Holyoke woman is lucky to be alive after a piece of wood crashed through her windshield on the highway Wednesday morning.

Massachusetts State Police said the 67-year-old driver was headed north on I-91 in Springfield at about 11 a.m. when her Subaru was struck by the 4x4 wood post.

It's believed that the post fell off another vehicle. Police said it was run over by a tractor-trailer and sent into the air before crashing through her windshield.

"We are thankful the woman was not injured, but would like to remind all motorists to ensure all loads are properly secured," police said. "This incident could have had a fatal outcome."
