Pregnancy Apps Offer Tips To Expecting Mothers

BOSTON (CBS) – Like many new moms-to-be, Tricia Huffman relies on her girlfriends for advice.

Huffman says the day that she found out she was pregnant, she downloaded pregnancy apps. And moms have plenty of choices, with more than 1,800 apps available, all dealing with baby bumps.

Natalie Diaz, author of "What To Do When You're Having Two," says pregnancy apps offer a new kind of convenience.

"Instead of having to ask an embarrassing question about hemorrhoids or incontinence to (my) best friend while I'm lying in bed, I can get the answer to those things during my pregnancy right away from a tablet or smart phone," she says.

Here are some of the apps you may find useful:

-"Full Term" tracks contractions and lets you upload and send them to your doctor.

-"My Pregnancy Today" gives day-to-day updates on what's happening with your body and the baby.

-"What To Expect When You're Expecting" offers advice, tips, and tricks similar to what you'd find in the best-selling book.

Huffman says the apps have helped her feel more informed and much less stressed.

"They probably make for a happier, healthier and more relaxed pregnancy," she says.

While these apps provide plenty of advice when it comes to pregnancy, often there is little-to-no medical oversight so make sure to use your phone to call your doctor with any health concerns.
