Patricia created some new records for the books. It was the fastest intensifying hurricane in history transitioning from a tropical storm to a Category 5 with 200mph. winds within 24 hours! It was the strongest hurricane on record in the Atlantic and Eastern Pacific with a central pressure of 879mb or 25.96" on your home barometer! OMG! It's small eye and radius of hurricane force winds plus rapid movement limited the devastation as it made landfall about 55 miles west-northwest of Manzanillo Friday evening. At that time, the winds had collapsed to 165 mph with a central pressure of 920mb or 27.17" and about 18 hours later, Patricia has deteriorated to a remnant low pressure system with maximum winds of 25-30 mph! It is possible that Patricia will reform quickly early this morning with tropical storm force winds of 40-50 mph. Clearly, a swath of heavy rain will be generated from west of Houston, TX to east of Jackson, MS in the next 24-36 hours. Some of that moisture may contribute to our spell of showery weather Wednesday afternoon and night.

The first showery weather of the new week happens this morning with the most widespread showers occurring north and west of Boston just prior to daybreak. These showers will weaken and decrease in coverage as they shift into southeastern MA. There may be a brief shower during tailgating with sunshine breaking out during the Patriots Game this afternoon. You can see the Pats/Jets Game on WBZ with kickoff scheduled at 1pm. And after a cold, gloomy Saturday, it will feel much nicer with temperatures about 15 degrees higher in the lower 60s. The Pats play twice this week with a game vs. the Dolphins on Thursday Night Football on WBZ. At that time, the weather should be partly cloudy to mostly clear with a brisk and gusty westerly wind and temperatures falling from about 57 to 52 during the game at Gillette Stadium.

I continue to study the myriad of global factors for clues about the winter ahead. It looks like an interesting season on the way which will be quite different in many ways to last winter. That does not necessarily mean an easy, mild winter. What is your early guess on the snowfall total in 2015-16? I will be narrowing my choices down to one in a few weeks after I examine what is happening globally into November.

Make it a great week!
