Randolph On Alert After Attempted Abduction At Bus Stop

RANDOLPH (CBS) - The community in Randolph is on alert after a girl says a man tried to abduct her while she was getting off the school bus Thursday.

Randolph police added extra patrols to the neighborhood where the middle school girl was approached by the stranger.

"She began walking towards her home and a man approached her and grabbed her by the arm and turned her and said he wanted to talk to her," Randolph Det. Lt. David Avery said.

Police say the frightened 11-year-old girl was able to run away and the stranger took off.

School officials alerted parents to the ongoing investigation and police were making several rounds through the neighborhood near Lantern Lane, especially at dismissal time.

"Clearly the boundaries were stepped over in terms of you don't put your hands on anyone in particular," Avery said. "And based on her age and in that area there's no reason why that should have happened."

The girl was not harmed.
