Police Seek 2 Masked Men In Leominster Bingo Night Robbery

LEOMINSTER (CBS) -- Police are looking for two masked men who allegedly tussled with a volunteer and robbed them during a busy bingo night in Leominster on Thursday.

Officers were called to the Knights of Columbus on Lancaster Street at 6:14 p.m.

Investigators say the men knew where the cash box was located, and they took it out of the Tom Duffy's hands before running off.

"I look up and here's this guy with a black mask and hoodie on and to me he looked like a giant," said Duffy, who has run Thursday night bingo for decades.

Admission cards and about $1,400 in cash was stolen. It's the first time something like this has happened.

"Thirty five years and nobody has given us any problems," Duffy said. "I guess it was just one of those nights."

The men were only in the building briefly, police say, and they don't have a detailed description of them. The suspects were seen wearing black gloves, and they drove off in a pickup truck.

No one was hurt during the incident. Investigators are trying to find surveillance cameras in the area.

One of the ways the Knights of Columbus raises money for its scholarship fund is through bingo games. Leominster Mayor Dean Mazzarella is asking people to donate what they can to replace that money.

"They're always there for us so now I think it's time for us to step up," he told WBZ NewsRadio 1030's Karyn Regal, adding that they are trying to raise $2,000. As of Friday afternoon, nearly two dozen donations totaling more than $900 had been made via the GoFundMe campaign page.

Anyone with information is asked to call Leominster police at (978) 534-7560.
