Watertown High School Field Hockey Team One Win Away From U.S. Record

WATERTOWN (CBS) - Watertown High School's field hockey team is closing in on a national record.

It has been six-and-a half years since they lost a game.

The Raiders hope to extend their unbeaten streak to 154 games Wednesday, which would be a new national high school record, with a win against Melrose High School.

Watertown is currently tied with Eastern High School of Voorhees, New Jersey, which set the current record back in 2005.

So what's the secret?

"We all work our hardest and just love the game," Ally McCall, a senior captain, told WBZ-TV.

"We have focused on being hungry for every practice, hungry for every game, being humble, and everyone's got to hustle. If you're not on, then someone else is going to be right there and replace you," said Eileen Donahue, who's been the head coach for 30 years.

Some girls on the team, like senior captain Michaela Antonellis, were as young as 11 years old when the streak began, but the significance of Wednesday's game is not lost on them.

"It's very surreal. It's weird to think tomorrow could bring everything together. Every single girl who's played in this program for the last six years, we're representing them too," Antonellis explains.
