Judge Dismisses Suit Challenging Wynn Land Deal

BOSTON (AP) — A Massachusetts judge has dismissed a lawsuit challenging the sale of state land for Wynn's planned $1.7 billion Boston-area casino.

Suffolk Superior Court Judge Janet Sanders, in an Oct. 15 ruling, said the 40 taxpayers who filed the July lawsuit don't have legal standing to challenge the deal, which involved the sale of 1.8 acres of Massachusetts Bay Transportation Authority land to Wynn for about $6 million.

The taxpayers, including leaders of last year's failed effort to repeal the state's casino law, suggested the MBTA, Wynn and Everett officials were in discussions to convey the property without a public bid as early as 2013. They wanted the judge to void the sale.

But Wynn maintained the deal followed the state's public bidding process, which included placing advertisements in area newspapers.
