Mass. State Police Debuts Rowing Team At Head Of The Charles
BOSTON (CBS) -- Getting geared up for the Head of the Charles is truly a team effort. From the practices to the training, racing on the Charles River this weekend is a big deal for the thousands of athletes who compete. But, for one 4-man team, being here at the race is a total shock.
Mass State Police trooper Matthew Davis calls it "a dream, an absolute dream."
This is the first time in history the State Police will row in this event. Four State Troopers are hitting the water after a very long break from the sport. These four men have rowed before, but it's been at least 20 years since they have done it, and they have never once competed together as a team.
Trooper Sean Maloney said he is just happy to be here. Eight years ago, Maloney underwent a kidney transplant after he was diagnosed with kidney failure.
They will hit the Charles River on Saturday to compete. Although they just started training a few weeks ago, their bond is stronger than most.
