NEWRY, Maine (CBS) – Skiers could hit the slopes at Sunday River as early as Monday, the ski resort announced.

Other than one exception in 2009, that would be the earliest Sunday River has opened in nearly 20 years.

Sunday River says opening trails is still contingent on weather and snow conditions.

“We can’t make any promises, but this forecast looks very favorable,” General Manager Dana Bullen said. “Our snowmakers are dedicated to opening as early as possible and this year is no different. But, we wanted to let our passholders and guests know so they can make their plans.”
