Lowell Police Officer Who Was Sleeping On Duty Resigns

LOWELL (CBS) -- A Lowell police officer who was caught sleeping in his cruiser in a photograph taken by a Lowell Sun reporter has resigned, according to the city manager.

On Thursday, City Manager Kevin Murphy told WBZ-TV Officer Jeff Moore officially resigned on Wednesday. He added that the resignation was effective immediately.

"It is unfortunate that a nice, honorable young man such as this has to resign, but he made a mistake and had to pay for it," Murphy said. "His actions were unacceptable and not tolerated by the Police Department or the City of Lowell."

Prior to his resignation, the police department had placed Moore on administrative leave.
