Man Wearing Priest's Clothes Performs Lewd Act In Cambridge Church

CAMBRIDGE (CBS) – Police are looking to track down a man caught on surveillance cameras entering a Cambridge church, putting on a priest's clothing and committing a lewd act on the altar.

The incident took place on September 29 around 3:15 a.m. inside the St. Sava Serbian Church.

Police say the suspect entered the church through an unlocked door while the church was closed.

The suspect is a white man in his 20s with glasses.

"I has an emotional effect on everybody. It's upsetting, distressing and you're just confused as to why somebody would do this," said church board member Alex Pogorzelski.

Jeremy Warnick, a spokesman for the Cambridge Police Department, said church members only discovered the incident after looking at security footage to determine who had broken into the building to steal money earlier in the day.

"It's a violation in many ways. Especially in the sacred grounds of a church. It disturbed the church, disturbed us and likely will disturb the community," said Warnick.

Anyone who recognizes the suspect is asked to call Cambrdige Police Det. Michael Miceli at (617) 349-9390.
