Counseling Centers Abruptly Close Due To Bankruptcy
CHELMSFORD (CBS) - Four counseling centers in Massachusetts owned by a Newton-based company have abruptly closed, surprising many patients.
The signs posted to the door of Stoney Brook counseling center had no explanation as to why the office is closed. A recorded telephone message only offered few details. Select centers were no longer operating and would close by order of the U.S. Bankruptcy Court.
Rose showed up at Stoney Brook for her usual appointment.
"I'm disappointed I didn't take a call first," she said.
Rose says she's been going there for about a year. Now she'll have to wait for further instructions on how to get her medical records.
"I guess I"m really more concerned about the other people who need to be here," Rose said. "A lot of people worry about uncertainty and things like that. Maybe this is a stable thing for them."
In all, about 2,000 patients of Stoney Brook, the Center For Family Development in Lowell, the Riverfront Counseling Center in Fitchburg and the Charles River Counseling Center in Newton are affected.
