Daily Talker: Add Air Conditioning To Schools?

With yet another hot day ahead, temperatures not only outside but inside Boston schools will be reaching uncomfortable levels.

City officials delivered large fans and water jugs to schools but that did little to comfort the more than 57,000 students this week.  Only 30 of 126 Boston schools have air conditioning.

According to the Globe, officials say they have no immediate plans to add more air conditioning to the district's schools, many of which were built before World War II.

Other officials said it would be hard to rationalize paying to install expensive air-conditioning systems in schools where there are so many other needs.  The Globe reports that school officials said they recently launched a review of all their buildings and expect to come up with a 10-year master plan within 18 months.

What do you think?  Should the district spend money to update schools with air conditioning?
