Local Mom Petitions For Nursing Room At Gillette Stadium

BOSTON (CBS) - If Washington DC and Cincinnati can do it, why can't we? A local mom is asking the Patriots to install a family-friendly space where parents can take care of their youngest fans.

"Where you have… a young child who's nursing or a mom who wants to go out and have a night or a day for herself, and not be able to pump, nurse, change, it makes it very difficult," said Patriots fan Kara Sassone.

Her twins are now three years old, and have moved on to solid food, but she remembers how frustrating it was when she wanted to bring them along to sporting events, and there was nowhere to comfortably care for them. She has started a petition on change.org asking the Patriots to consider accommodating young families.

Major League Baseball is already answering to demands for family-friendly spaces. The Washington Nationals unveiled a luxury breastfeeding suite last month in response to a similar change.org petition. Back in March, The Cincinnati Reds opened up a cozy space with couches and big screens. This summer, Fenway Park was the first of several ballparks to offer breastfeeding pods. Sassone says the pods are a nice gesture, but they're "isolating". Now, she says it's time the NFL get in the game.

"There are, in addition to football games, so many events that happen at Gillette, whether it be college graduations, or high school football tournaments in addition to the Patriots games, where families are invited to join in the fun," said Sassone. "The NFL tries to be proactive and family friendly… It would be nice if they could make it a little bit better for families."
