First Night First Day Gets A New Look For New Year's Eve In Boston

BOSTON (CBS) - First Night will be scaled down for the new year and there will be no buttons, which means it will be absolutely free.

Conventures, the company taking over the New Year's Eve celebration in downtown Boston, says nearly all of the events will be now be concentrated in Copley Square.

Favorites like the grand procession and the ice sculptures will stay, as will both fireworks shows.

But there will be no events inside the Hynes Convention Center this year.

Those events will be relocated to other areas.

First Night will also be extended over two days, making it First Night, First Day

"We feel that the people who are either falling out of the hotels with their kids or are looking for something to do and they live in the Back Bay or the South End, come on over (to) First Day and, most importantly, go have brunch in one of these restaurants or hotels that are helping to support this whole program," said Dusty Rhodes of Conventures.
