Police Investigating Suspicious Packages Found At Winthrop Beach

WINTHROP (CBS) -- Police are investigating suspicious packages found at Winthrop Beach on Saturday.

Investigators were called to beach located along Winthrop Shore Drive around 6 p.m.

Winthrop police officers and firefighters and State Police, including a bomb technician, were called to the scene.

A Winthrop Harbormaster boat was also seen patrolling the waters near the beach.

Police have taped off the area while they investigate.

Winthrop police say at least two packages were found in the flight path of where planes take off from Logan Airport in Boston.

They did not find explosives.

The bag's contents are still being investigated to make sure they aren't dangerous, State Police said.

The investigation is ongoing.
