Tewksbury Officer Struck By Allegedly Drunk Driver

TEWKSBURY (CBS) – A Lowell woman was charged with drunk driving after she allegedly drove into a Tewksbury police officer who was trying to stop her at a construction site.

Police said Bridgette Dodge was arrested early Friday morning and charged with operating under the influence of liquor, failure to stop for a police officer and negligent operation.

Just after 1 a.m., police say an officer working a construction detail on Main Street was trying to stop Dodge's car.

The officer had to "abruptly move out of the way" as Dodge drove toward him, according to police.

As the officer dove out of way, the officer was hit by the car's side mirror and driver's side window. The window shattered as a result of the impact and the officer was knocked to the ground.

Dodge was stopped and arrested a short distance from the scene.

The officer was transported to an area hospital and released with minor injuries.

Following her arrest, Dodge is scheduled to be arraigned in Lowell District Court on Aug. 21.
