Passenger In Car Killed In Cambridge Shooting

CAMBRIDGE (CBS) – A passenger in a car was shot and killed in Cambridge near MIT Wednesday night.

Middlesex District Attorney Marian Ryan said 5-to-8 gunshots were fired in the area of Windsor and Main Streets just after 8:30 p.m.

A car that was leaving the Newtowne Court housing complex was riddled with bullets and a passenger inside was shot, according to Ryan.

The car drove for about a half-mile down Main Street towards Kendall Square, where it stopped near the Kendall Square MBTA station.

The driver got help and the victim was rushed to the hospital, where he died.

He had been shot multiple times, according to Ryan.  His name has not been released, but Ryan said he was about 30 years old and was from Cambridge.

The driver is cooperating with officers, the D.A. said.

The shooter has not been found.

The shooting was just a few blocks from the MIT campus, but Ryan said there doesn't appear to be a connection with the school.
