4-Year Old Drowns In Norwood Pool

NORWOOD (CBS) – Neighbor Tom Brady was in his Norwood front yard when he heard the screams coming from across the street.

"I knew what was wrong, it was obvious," he says. "So I went over to help and we did as best we could."

He arrived to find a 4-year-old boy, who he knows very well, in desperate need of help. The preschooler had been playing at his aunt and uncle's house where he visits all the time.

They're a very close family; they're an excellent family," Brady explains. "It's just an all-around tragedy."

It was the little boy's aunt who discovered him at the bottom of her pool and pulled him out. Brady, a former EMT, started doing CPR.

"It kicks in, and you do what you have to do," he says of his life-saving skills. "Obviously you're dealing with an individual that you know, you're dealing with a situation where you know what to do and you just try your best."

Brady says emergency crews arrived on the scene almost immediately.

"Firefighters took over, did a phenomenal job, did the best they absolutely could. I really credit their entire team," Brady says. "The police were there too. Everybody did what they could. That was the toughest part about it."

The boy was pronounced dead at Norwood Hospital. Police do not think foul play was involved. The investigation is now being handled by the Norfolk District Attorney's office.
