Brookline Shop Sells Do It Yourself Gourmet Recipe Kits

BROOKLINE (CBS) - You have a hectic schedule between work and home, but still want to make a delicious dinner. Well, a new shop on Beacon St. in Brookline says they have the answer. It's called "Pantry" and promises everything you need, in a bag.

Pantry opened just this week selling what are basically recipe kits. It's the first of its kind, brainchild of Amanda Mayo and Dennis Lasko. "All the recipes are chef designed, and we give you step by step, full color recipe cards," says Lasko. "We have offerings of meat and vegetarian, but we try to do global influenced food with local ingredients," adds Mayo.

All the ingredients are set up for you. You just pick your dish, grab the pre-measured ingredients, take everything home and cook it yourself. A meal for 2 is $16 to $22. They even have wine and beer to pair with the meal. "I think it's a great idea," says first time customer Nick Doyle. "It was about $24. I got the Moroccan chicken and 2 beers, so about $12 a person," he says.

Nick's a busy guy so Pantry is a good alternative for him. "I went out last night for dinner, me and my girlfriend, and we spent over a hundred dollars," he says.

It's truly one stop shopping, and they're selling convenience and fresh ingredients. "I think it's for busy consumers, but it's for the people who love food, which I think is everyone now," says Chef Mayo. "This is a great way to branch out and you don't have to plan. Choose what you want, you walk out in 15 minutes," adds Lasko.

And there's no waste because you buy the exact amount of ingredients you need. "I hate the slimy bag of cilantro on Sunday night that you throw out in shame," says Mayo.

There are other outlets where you can buy recipe kits by subscribing to the service. But with Pantry, you buy what you want, when you want. Right now there are five dishes available. By the end of the month that number will be 20, and delivery and desserts will soon be on the menu.
