Jurors In Gary Sampson Death Penalty Case May Be Asked About Tsarnaev Verdict

BOSTON (CBS) -- Jurors considered for the sentencing re-trial of convicted serial killer Gary Lee Sampson maybe asked about their thoughts on the Boston Marathon bombing trial.

Federal prosecutors, who are seeking the death penalty, submitted a proposed jury questionnaire on Friday. One question out of the 110 included would ask jurors about their thoughts on the Boston bomber Dzhokhar Tsarnaev's death sentence.

The question reads: "The case of the Boston Marathon bomber Dzhokhar Tsarnaev was recently tried in this courthouse. How might the fact that a jury found Tsarnaev guilty and imposed the death penalty affect your willingness to impose the death penalty in this case?"

Sampson was convicted and condemned to death in 2003 for carjacking and killing three people in Massachusetts and New Hampshire.

His death penalty sentence was overturned after the courts determined one juror lied during jury selection. He is receiving a new penalty phase trial with a new jury.
