I-Team: Man Posing As Engineer Allegedly Scammed More Customers

BURLINGTON (CBS) -- A man claiming to be a licensed engineer that the I-Team exposed last year appears to be at it again, despite a court order not to.

Now, the I-Team has learned, there is a warrant out for Martin Finch's arrest.

Leah Busa of Burlington needed drawings and measurements to get permits and plans for an addition to her home. At the recommendation of a mutual friend, she reached out to Martin Finch this spring.

His emails say he's a project engineer. His LinkedIn page says the same. In pages of correspondence he and Busa went back and forth on the plans. He even sent her floor plans that he claimed were "stamped".

"He never said he was a licensed engineer," Leah told the I-Team. "I never asked because I knew who he was. I trusted him. But the email said project engineer."

But Finch is not a licensed engineer. Last summer, the I-Team confronted him outside court.

He was charged with stealing the official stamps of actual surveyors and scamming customers who thought he was the real deal, in some cases setting their projects back months.

"I know some people were hurt and I'm not happy about myself about that," he told WBZ in June 2014.

Finch walked out of court that day with bail conditions that he not practice surveying or engineering.

But Busa says that is exactly the type of work for which he charged her $800.

The I-Team tried twice to ask Finch about the latest allegations. Twice he jumped in his car and drove away without answering any questions.

After we looked into Busa's case, she also reported it to the district attorney and police.

The I-Team has learned they've now issued a warrant for his arrest.

Busa is now out hundreds of dollars with nothing to show for it. She hopes Finch finally faces justice.

"I'm extremely upset. He fooled us. He stole from us," she said.
