Boston 2024 Olympics Organizers Trying To Revive Struggling Bid

SOMERVILLE, Mass. (AP) — Organizers of Boston's bid for 2024 Summer Olympics are in a sprint to the finish.

They're scrambling to improve lackluster poll numbers by enlisting nearly 4,000 volunteers to hit community events across the state this summer.

This past weekend alone, volunteers fanned out to cultural festivals, farmer's markets and sports events such as the Bay State Games at Tufts University on Saturday, where they handed out Boston 2024 wristbands and other freebies.

The private organization has yet launch a costly public relations campaign involving television and print advertisements though they say that's still on the table. So far, they're relying on online videos featuring former Olympians and famous Boston athletes like Red Sox slugger David Ortiz.

Boston is hoping to compete against Paris, Rome and other international cities for the games.
