Fawn Rescued By Shirley Police, Animal Control Officers Found Dead A Day Later
SHIRLEY (CBS) -- A fawn rescued by Shirley police and animal control officers on Friday was found dead on Saturday morning, according to the Lowell Sun.
Officer Craig LaPrade and an animal control officer freed the deer from inside a fence enclosure near Insurance Auto Auctions, the Sun reports. He later released the deer on the other side of the fence.
When he visited the area on Saturday, that's when he found the fawn dead.
"Either she passed away from stress, which they get and there's no visual signs, or malnutrition that the mother wasn't around to give her breast milk," he said.
LaPrade is a patrolman with the police force, according to the staff directory on the Shirley Police Department website.
