Vietnam Memorial Wall Replica On Display In Gloucester

GLOUCESTER (CBS) -- A replica of the Vietnam Veterans Memorial wall is now on display in Gloucester.

An unveiling ceremony was held Thursday at the Fuller School, where the half-scale wall will be open 24 hours a day until Sunday.

The Wall That Heals has been touring the country since 1996, and there was a three-year effort to bring it back to Gloucester.

"The wall hasn't been here since 1997," said Mark Nestor, commander of American Legion Post No. 3. "A lot of the Vietnam veterans didn't even go then because the pain was still too much, so we're trying to reach out to them now."

An emotional Gov. Charlie Baker spoke at the ceremony, earning applause for his message to always support the troops, regardless of how people feel about war.

"The legacy of Vietnam is complicated," Baker said. "It taught people a valuable lesson about how they should view those who served."
