One Killed In Crash On I-495 In Methuen

METHUEN (CBS) – State Police are investigating a fatal crash on Interstate 495 South in Methuen on Thursday.

Troopers were called to the interstate just north of exit 46 at 5:36 p.m. Methuen police, firefighters and EMS and Massachusetts Department of Transportation workers assisted State Police at the scene.

First responders arrived and discovered the crash involved three vehicles.

One person was pronounced dead at the scene, and several others were taken to area hospitals.

Authorities have not identified the deceased or the injured parties.

Drivers were asked to seek alternative routes as police investigate the accident.

Troopers were redirecting traffic from I-495 South at exit 47 to Route 213 westbound.

The ramp from Route 213 East to I-495 South was closed and all traffic was diverted to I-495 northbound.

Traffic reopened around 8:45 p.m., according to the State Police Twitter account.

Police are investigating the cause and circumstances of the crash. The Essex County District Attorney's Office is overseeing the investigation.
