Two Men Arrested Following Alleged Falmouth Kidnapping Attempt
FALMOUTH (CBS) - Police say two well-known residents with lengthy criminal records tried to abduct a middle schooler Wednesday.
It happened at 7:45 a.m. as the 13-year-old girl was waiting for the bus on Manauhant Road.
She told police two older men approached her in a van and tried to lure her inside.
"First thing they said was, 'Oh wow. You're beautiful.' They tried to pry her into the van with the offer of candy," said the teenager's mother.
The girl told her mother she ran away, and the suspects left. Eventually, she returned to her bus stop and boarded the bus, where she texted her mother.
"When I said, 'I'm glad you're on the bus,' she said, 'ya, I'm still shaking though and I was pretty much in tears,'" said her mother.
School officials called police, and several hours later, officers caught up with Bruce Bartlett, 61, and his brother, Dennis Bartlett, 60, at their apartment on Palmer Avenue.
"She did the right thing. When push came to shove and this came at her, she knew what to do," says her mother.
The Bartletts are facing felony attempted abduction charges and will be arraigned in Falmouth on Thursday.
