Market Basket Feud Began One Year Ago

TEWKSBURY (CBS) – The summer of Market Basket began one year ago.

Arthur T. Demoulas was fired a year ago Tuesday, an action that dominated headlines throughout the summer.

After Artie T., as he is known, was fired and his cousin Arthur S. Demoulas took over, thousands of employees showed their displeasure to management by refusing to work.

Because of the feud, shelves were mostly empty at Market Basket stores throughout the summer.

The standoff lasted until the final week of August when Artie T. returned as CEO, employees returned to work, and shelves were stocked again.

On Tuesday at Market Basket in Tewksbury, customers told WBZ NewsRadio 1030's Karyn Regal that they were glad employees stood up for Artie T.

"It was worth it," one woman said. "Sometimes you have to go through a bad situation to get to a good situation."
