Police Charge 12 Teens And Driver Of Party Bus Headed To Tim McGraw Concert

NORTON (CBS) – Three teenagers were hospitalized and more than a dozen were charged after several underage passengers were allegedly intoxicated while on a party bus traveling to Mansfield for a Tim McGraw concert.

A Norton police officer working a detail assignment paid for by the Xfinity Center saw a female lying on the ground in front of Cumberland Farms on Mansfield Ave. on Friday night.

The officer said several people were trying to pick the girl up off the ground.

As the officer walked up to the group, several people, including the female who had been on the ground, ran from the area. Some were carrying beer cans as they ran, police said.

A charter bus from The Original Party Trolley of Boston was parked near the group. When police searched the bus, they found a "large quantity" of beer cans and bottles throughout the bus.

William Rivera, 40, of Randolph, told police he was the driver of the bus, which was bringing 35 teenagers from Quincy to the concert.

The teenagers were between 15 and 18 years old, and Rivera told officers he did not know there was alcohol on the bus.

While at the bus, officers saw a woman vomiting. She was transported to Sturdy Memorial Hospital. A second female who was outside the bus was also transported.

Ten remaining teenagers were taken to the Norton Police Department until their parents could pick them up.

Nine of the teenagers had blood alcohol levels over .10, police said, while an 18-year-old passenger had a blood alcohol level of .25.

She was taken to the hospital due to her level of intoxication.

In total, 12 teenagers were charged for being a minor in possession of alcohol.

Rivera was charged with furnishing alcohol to a minor and contributing to the delinquency of a minor.

All will be summonsed to appear in Attleboro District Court.
