2 Men Arrested After Arlington Double Shooting

ARLINGTON (CBS) – Two men were arrested after a double shooting late Friday night in Arlington that led to one of the suspects being hit by the victims' car as they drove away.

Arlington police responded to the intersection of Lake Street and Massachusetts Ave. just after 10 p.m. Friday night and found two men who had been shot while inside their car.

Police discovered the men had been shot while near Thorndike Field, less than a mile away.

Officers around the region began searching for the suspects, and Cambridge police quickly found homeless resident Peter Harris, 37, near the Alewife MBTA station.

Harris had a handgun magazine in his pocket and police found a gun nearby.

He was arrested and charged with assault and battery with a dangerous weapon, armed assault with intent to murder and firearms offenses.

In the area of Thorndike Field, police located the second suspect, whose last known address was also a homeless shelter.

Stephen Meyer, 60, told police he had been hit by a car.

Initial police investigation shows Meyer was likely hit by the victims' car as they tried to drive away from the shooting scene.

Meyer was treated and released from a Boston hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

He was arrested and charged with assault and battery with a dangerous weapon, armed assault with intent to murder, and also on multiple felony arrest warrants.

Arlington police said additional felony charges may be filed against the two men.

The victims, who are 18 and 21 years old, were both taken to Boston-area hospitals with serious injuries.

Harris and Meyer will be held at the Arlington Police department until their arraignments Monday in Cambridge District Court.
