NH Man Seeks Kidney Donor Using Pickup Truck Advertisement

AMESBURY, NH (CBS) – A retired police officer is looking for a new kidney and he's asking anyone stuck in traffic to help.

Donald Hall, who retired five years ago after 30 years working as a police officer in Amesbury and Newburyport, is in need of a kidney after being diagnosed with a rare form of gangrene.

"I've been fighting for my life daily, but I have to stay on the positive side," Hall said. "My kidney function right now is at zero percent."

In his search for an organ donor, Hall's friend, Regina Nadeau, used stickers to write "Need kidney. Type O" on the back window of her pickup truck.

They also used the stickers to give out the phone number interested donors can call.

"Serious inquiries only!," Hall posted on the Find A Kidney For Donald Facebook page.

After his initial diagnosis, Hall was in a coma for nearly a month. He went through nine operations while being hospitalized for five months.

Since that time, Hall has also been through several other medical procedures and attends dialysis three times a week for four hours at a time.

Beth Israel Deaconess in Boston has also taken up Donald's cause.

Anyone interested in more information on how they could help Hall is asked to call Beth Israel coordinator Tracy Bann at (617) 632-9851. Donors can also call Nadeau at (603) 777-6258.
