Missing Art Found At Boston Public Library

BOSTON (CBS) – Two pieces of art that were reported missing at the Boston Public Library have been found.

A 1504 Durer "Adam and Eve" engraving worth about $600,000, and a 1634 Rembrandt self-portrait valued between $20,000 and $30,000, were found Thursday in the library's print stacks.

The pieces of art were filed 80 feet from where they should have been.

"It was just a human error," Boston Public Library President Amy Ryan said.

It was an error that cost Ryan her job. On Wednesday, under heavy pressure from the public and the mayor, Ryan announced that she would resign effective July 3.

But what if they were found a day earlier?

"You know I just can't speculate," Ryan said. "It was a course of events and I'm just so glad that we found the missing pieces of artwork, it really lifts a cloud."

Ryan said the "Adam and Eve" engraving was last seen in April 2014 when it was shown to a class. When another class wanted to see it in July 2014, it was gone. Ryan says she was not told about the disappearance until April 2015.

Boston Police and the FBI were investigating the disappearance of the art.
