Boy Pulled From New Hampshire Swimming Pool Dies

EPPING, N.H. (CBS) --A 2-year-old boy has died after being pulled from a New Hampshire swimming pool Monday morning, police said.

Epping police said the boy had been reported missing about 10 minutes before they responded to the Hedding Road home at 9 a.m. He was found unresponsive in a swimming pool at the home and rushed to a hospital.

The boy's parents were home at the time, police said.

This is the second drowning death in the region in two days. On Sunday, a 5-year-old child drowned in a murky swimming pool in Methuen.

Federal officials say there has been an average of 390 pool or spa-related fatalities annually in recent years involving children 15 or younger. More than three-quarters of those involve children under 5 years old.

Here are some safety tips from the Consumer Product Safety Commission for parents with pools:

-Teach children basic water safety tips
-Never leave a child unattended near water
-Have a telephone nearby when a child is in water
-Teach your children how to swim
-Learn CPR
-Install a 4-foot fence or taller around pools
-Consider alarms for the pool area
