S'Mores No More? USDA Pushes Healthy Alternative

BOSTON (CBS) – Many people would agree s'mores are a very popular summer-time treat.

So why would anyone change them?

A new idea from the federal government might end up as popular as "new Coke."

The U.S. Department of Agriculture warned Americans last year that s'mores were unhealthy, writing in a blog post:

"But there are some innovative ways to roast the little white treats that can help cut down on the amount of sugar intake by the kids, thus making bedtime a little more doable."

Now the USDA has published it's alternative recipe.

"This quick, easy, and mouth-watering recipe is a perfect afternoon snack for the early days of summer. Kids will love that they can make it themselves, and parents will love that it's an inexpensive and healthy treat!"

The chocolate is replaced by strawberries.

The marshmallow also gone, taken over by low-fat yogurt.

The only thing that's the same is the graham cracker, at least for now.
