Brandon Spikes: 'Me And The Hoodie Have Kissed And Made Up'

BOSTON (CBS) -- Despite a rather messy breakup just over a year ago, Brandon Spikes is back in New England.

The linebacker was on the field for the Patriots on Friday morning as the team continued their offseason OTAs at Gillette Stadium, and didn't want to talk about how things ended in New England.

"We can clearly see me and the hoodie have kissed and made up. I'm here and I'm moving on," Spikes told reporters. "That's in the past; that's dead."

That's an interesting visual. The hoodie, of course, is Bill Belichick. Spikes was benched towards the end of the 2013 season due to missing practice, a decision he wasn't too pleased with. The Patriots then parted ways with the middle linebacker, and he joined their AFC East rivals, the Buffalo Bills.

Soon after his signing with Buffalo, Spikes tweeted out that his time in New England was "4 years a slave." He even expressed how excited he was to beat the Patriots twice last season when the NFL schedule was released.

But that's all in the past now. Spikes, who spent his first four NFL seasons with the New England Patriots after the team drafted him in the second round of the 2010 NFL draft, said his one year in Buffalo was an important part of his career.

"Sometimes you need that separation; it makes you more appreciative and thankful for what you have," he said.

As for what is different in Foxboro this time around, Spikes said not much has changed. The one exception is a piece of jewelry that Spikes really wants for his own.

"They got that big ring, and we're moving on from that. Some of the guys throw that in my face. It is what it is and it's all fun and games," he said of New England's Super Bowl XLIX victory. "That's one of the things that drives me. It gives me that chip, the extra edge I need to get better each and every day. I want to try and get one of those so I can show my kids one day. 'Hey, look what your father's got.'"
