Phantom Gourmet: Blue Dragon In Boston

BOSTON (CBS) - -It's one the hottest restaurants in Boston, run by one of the best known chefs in America.

If you're looking to slay your hunger with something deliciously different, you need to visit Blue Dragon. Located in the Fort Point, Blue Dragon is the first Boston restaurant for celebrity chef Ming Tsai.

Ming opened the acclaimed Blue Ginger in Wellesley almost 20 years ago, and now, he's bringing much of what he created in the suburbs to the city.

"You're going to get the style of care and service of a Blue Ginger because that's how we're trained, but it is certainly a much more fun atmosphere," Tsai says.

So this Asian Gastropub is decked out with touches of far east flare in a bar style setting. The menu is loaded with East-West cuisine served on shareable plates.

"We want people to be able to share in order lots of little plates to experience lots of different flavors," Tsai said.

So there are snacks like Japanese sweet potato chips with charred scallion dip, braised beef potstickers, shrimp shumai, sweet and sour pork ribs and garlic sake clams with udon noodles whipped up by Executive Chef Tom Woods.

"We figured being in the Seaport it would be great to have a clam and noodle dish. Two tablespoons of garlic, I always add just a little extra. We're gonna add a little mixture of sake, dashi, and some soy sauce. We've got some clams that we steamed ahead. Add a fair amount of butter here. Simply chili flake like you'd see at the pizza shop." Big batch of udon noodles. Little fresh lemon juice. Just stir it around. Alright, perfect. You can see that broth fill up the bottomg of the bowl. And we're gonna finish with just a little fresh cucumber." That's our Udon and Clams."

And best of all, all of this world class food costs a lot less than you'd expect.

"It's casual food you can easily get in and out for 20 bucks. You would be hard-pressed to spend a lot of money here at Blue Dragon."
