Cruise Ship That Ran Aground Off Bermuda Arrives In Boston

BOSTON (CBS/AP) - A Norwegian Cruise Line ship arrived safely in Boston Friday morning, three days after it ran aground off the coast of Bermuda.

The liner Norwegian Dawn pulled into the Black Falcon cruise terminal just after 7 a.m.with nearly 3,500 passengers and crew on board.

The ship left Bermuda Tuesday, but ended up stuck on a reef just off the coast for about 6 1/2 hours.

The company said a temporary malfunction in the steering system forced it slightly off course.

The high tide helped push it off the reef and into deeper water, where the ship dropped anchor before returning to Bermuda.

No one was hurt.

The ship was inspected and left Bermuda on Wednesday.  It arrived in Boston Friday as scheduled.

Passengers will get a 15-percent credit towards a future cruise. But not all of them believe that's enough to make up for the experience.

"I think it's a little low," one passenger told WBZ NewsRadio 1030's Carl Stevens. "It was definitely disruptive to the vacation. You get relaxed four days in and then everything happens and you need to relax again."

Another person who was on board, however, said the incident was no big deal.

"We just hit ground, but we got to stay an extra half a day in Bermuda and they treated us very well on the ship," the man said.

The ship's next tour will leave Friday afternoon as planned.
