Man Charged In Fatal Derry, NH Hit-And-Run

DERRY, N.H. (CBS) – Police say a drunk driver has been charged with negligent homicide after he struck and killed a Massachusetts man and injured a woman riding a motorcycle Thursday night in Derry, New Hampshire.

Officers were called to the Hickory Road area on Chester Road (Route 102) at 6:42 p.m. for a report of a car hitting a motorcycle.

A Kia traveling eastbound tried to make a left turn onto Hickory when the crash occurred, police say. Chester Road had to be shut down for six hours.

Investigators found a 2007 Harley Davidson motorcycle in the westbound lane of Chester Road with significant front-end damage. The car fled the scene.

The 59-year-old man riding the motorcycle was found in the roadway with serious injuries. He was taken Elliot Hospital in Manchester where he was pronounced dead.

A 28-year-old woman passenger was also hurt, suffering non-life-threatening neck and shoulder injuries. She was taken to Parkland Medical Center.

The victims' names have not been released pending notification of their families.

After a witness provided police with a description of the suspect, his vehicle and license plate number, police found the Kia abandoned on Old Derry Road in Londonderry.

Derry and Londonderry officers searched the area and found a man who matched the witness's description and arrested 46-year-old Michael Dixon.

The Derry resident was charged with two counts of negligent homicide, conduct after an accident with personal injury (felony) and driving while intoxicated, second offense.

Police say Dixon didn't have a valid driver's license at the time of the crash.

Dixon is being held at the Rockingham County Jail.

He will be arraigned Friday in Derry district court.
