Girl Attacked, Nearly Abducted In Cotuit

HYANNIS (CBS) – A Cape Cod neighborhood is on alert after a young girl was attacked and nearly abducted Monday afternoon.

The attack happened in Cotuit. The girl was on her way home from school when she was grabbed by a man who was following her in a pickup truck. She was able to fight him off.

"The suspect exited his truck, stopped next to her, exited his truck grabbed onto her, she was able to fight him off and run to her home," said Barnstable Police Lt. Michael Clark. "She defended herself."

Police are looking for a reddish brown pickup with some rust driven by a thin white man 5'10" to 6' tall with short thick brownish grey hair. A neighbor of the victim thinks she saw that suspect earlier in the day following a different young woman.

"The truck went slowly by her and he looked at her in a way that made me concerned," neighbor Vickie Vieiria said. "And I just kept looking and I thought 'don't get nervous Vickie he probably thinks he knows her' but I didn't feel that way about it."

Police sent out a reverse 911 call. The victim's neighbors are glad she's OK, although there are reports she was punched in the face by the suspect.

"I feel terrible for this young lady and I'm very impressed that she had the wherewithal to fight back," Vieiria said.
