BOSTON (CBS) — Sixteen students at Boston Latin School have received a once in a lifetime opportunity to study abroad, but some said they almost turned it down.

Many students work to help their families and were unsure whether they could leave their jobs for the extended period of time.

“Most of the money I get from [my job] goes towards groceries and buying stuff for the house,” one student told WBZ NewsRadio 1030’s Karen Twomey.

The scholarships will help ease the burden for the students.

This is the first year a school in Massachusetts is awarded Global Navigators Scholarships through the Council on International Educational Exchange.
