Body Found In Hopkinton Reservoir After Canoe Overturns

HOPKINTON (CBS) -- The body of a 23-year-old Franklin man was found Sunday morning after the canoe he was in capsized, officials said.

It was just before midnight when a canoe carrying three people overturned in Whitehall Reservoir in Hopkinton, Deputy Fire Chief Steve Slaman said.

A 24-year-old man and 22-year-old woman in the capsized canoe made it to shore and went to get help. Authorities searched all night for Nicholas Horton, whose body was found at 9:30 a.m. about a half-mile from shore.

The man and woman who made it to shore were hospitalized for evaluation of non-life-threatening injuries.

The three friends were believed to be returning from an island in the reservoir when they ran into trouble, Slaman said.

A GoFundMe page has been set up to help the family with funeral costs.
